3 Things You Can Learn From an Engine Diagnostic at Your Chrysler Dealer

An engine diagnostic is a fast and effective way to identify problems in your engine. Your Chrysler has a computer that automatically logs all information about the workings of our car. As your Chrysler dealer, we can connect your car’s computer to our diagnostic system and identify problems before they become more serious. These are a few of the things a diagnostic will reveal.

An Oxygen Sensor Has Failed

Your car has numerous sensors that send information to the computer. The computer uses this information to make decisions on the efficient operation of your car. A failed sensor can lead to problems for your engine as it won’t send any information, and your computer is forced to guess. The oxygen sensors are positioned in your engine at the entrance and exit of the catalytic converter.

Oxygen sensors monitor the level of oxygen in your engine. A lack of oxygen will cause misfires, lower fuel efficiency, and eventually damage your engine. This makes knowing the correct air level vital. Low oxygen levels will also affect the converter’s ability to convert dangerous gases, which increases your car’s emissions. The diagnostic will show any damaged sensors so we can replace them.

Low Coolant Level

Your Chrysler must maintain a specific amount of coolant in the engine to control the temperature. Coolant circulates through the engine at high speed and absorbs heat from the various components. This heat is transported to the radiator, where it’s removed. This liquid isn’t consumed as it works, so a low level of coolant means a leak somewhere in the system.

A diagnostic can identify a lower coolant level before it becomes a problem. Sensors in your engine are capable of detecting even minute fluctuations. A small leak could occur in the cooling system, and coolant may leak slowly into the exhaust system. Identifying a coolant issue before it becomes serious can prevent your engine from overheating.

Dirty Mass Flow Sensor (MAF)

The MAF is a sensor positioned between the intake manifold and the air filter. It identifies the quantity of air that will enter each cylinder. Air changes its volume due to ambient temperature, altitude, and speed. Am MAF supplies this information to your computer and enables it to determine the correct air-to-fuel ratio for efficient combustion.

MAFs are very tough components, but they can get dirty. A dirty MAF will provide incorrect information to your computer, and this can cause engine jerking, stalling, or slow acceleration. We can clean the MAF to fix this problem.
